About Elvie & Alex Ress

Elvira “Elvie” Ress passed on Saturday, November 21, 2015 after a decades’ long battle with cancer. Elvie was a beloved wife, mother and friend who always put a smile on peoples’ faces. She touched many people with her warm-heartedness and compassion. Elvie was an SICU nurse at Jackson Memorial Hospital and a PACU nurse at University of California - San Diego. She inherited Li-Fraumeni Syndrome, a dominant cancer gene, which afflicted her with numerous cancers over her lifetime. She was a warrior, who never gave in or ever gave up. Elvie loved music and listened to upbeat and empowering songs to keep her motivated during her many chemotherapy infusions.

Alexander "Alex" Ress passed away on Tuesday, May 9th, 2017. After graduating from the Kelley School of Business at the University of Indiana, Alex took a promotion-track position at Cummins, Inc. He later decided to change professions and went back to school to complete a pre-med curriculum. Alex was passionate about music and enjoyed a variety of genres.

The Ress family has dedicated the Music for Healing Program to honor the memories of Elvie and Alex via community outreach and to show that while music can touch an audience, through personal interaction, the audience can also touch the musician.
